The number of members and the interest in membership has increased during the Kvarken Councils first operating year as an EGTC. The latest official new members are Skellefteå municipality and Västernorrland County Council, but also a couple of development companies and a university. We saw satisfied faces during today’s annual meeting on the 20th of May 2022. Among them Joakim Strand, Member of the Parliament in Finland, and the Chairman of the Kvarken Council.
– We’re broadening the network and getting a better contact area with the business community and the universities, which is relevant when we talk about regional development. With the accession of Västernorrland County Council, the geography will also be expanded and give us the opportunity to further strengthen the cooperation in the region.
– The connection to Västernorrland County Council is natural because of our common world heritage and many collaborations during the years. We’re well prepared for this because Västernorrland County Council has a habit of cooperating in a Nordic context as a former long-term member of the Mid Nordic Committee, Strand continues.
We welcome all new members and note that this also increases the pressure on the services provided by the Kvarken Council. We’ll further strengthen our office functions, primarily in Sweden.
