The E12 Atlantica Transport’s project partners assembled in November in Lycksele, Sweden, for the second of three working meetings. The theme of the meeting was the E12 route’s transport system’s mutual targets and sub-targets. The participants also discussed e.g. the mutual vision, significant geographical points-of-interests, and infrastructural quality objectives. The project’s vision is based on regional and national visions and objectives.
“We partook in lively discussions, especially during teamwork sessions. The groups’ presentations were inspiring and will guide the work forward in the right direction. We’re about halfway there with our goals, and the partners will come together once more in February when the objectives will be ranked and rendered measurable via indicators,” tells Mr Lars Brümmer, Ramböll’s representative and Project Manager.

Marko Mäenpää, Ramböll’s third representative in the meeting and the one responsible for the analysis focusing on Finland, is missing from the photo.
“We’re very pleased that nearly 35 participants and almost all the partners’ representatives managed to meet yet again. I think that the day was very successful, especially in terms of the objective discussions. My group could quite easily put together pieces of the puzzle regarding the mutual vision. We also discussed the level that the whole E12 route should strive towards, for instance the 100 km/hour speed limit and how it could be practically implemented in all the three countries. It’ll be interesting to hear Ramböll’s summary during the next working meeting,” says Ms Jeanette Kjellberg, Project Manager for Umeå University’s Centre for Regional Science (Cerum) and leader of the E12 Atlantica Transport’s first work package.

The third working meeting will be held in Mo i Rana, Norway, on February 8–9. The meeting will begin with the review of the results from the first two meetings’ discussions. Its main theme will be “indicators” that measure the development and benefits arising from the transport system’s improvements.
The system analysis is expected to be finished by March 1st, 2017, whereafter it can be used as a basis for political decision-making.
The E12 Atlantica Transport project is implementing a cross-border system analysis of the E12 Corridor with the help of Ramböll. The system analysis is included in the project’s first work package, which aims at identifying the possibilities for the optimization and development of the transport solutions in the E12 route ranging from Finland and through Sweden all the way to Norway and the Atlantic Coast. The analysis also functions as a knowledge-base for regional infrastructure planning, and its starting point is a current state analysis that aims to define e.g. the stream of goods, commuting, the quantity of goods handled in ports, and the speed levels of railways.
Such analyses are often regional, but the E12 Atlantica Transport project aims to create a cross-border system analysis of all the areas surrounding the route. The analysis will be carried out with the active participation of all the partners in workshops where the partners can discuss important starting points and issues. The current state analysis is significant in terms of the whole continued work of the E12 Atlantica Transport project.
