About the project

Nordic Battery Belt – Feasibility study, will gather the region’s battery technology actors to investigate needs and the content of a larger implementation project about for example competence supply, regional marketing and education.

The emerging battery industry in the northern Nordic region has an important role in the transition to a fossil-free society, at the same time as it means a large addition of new jobs to the region. However, the large investments that are now taking place pose major challenges for the region to handle, including issues like skills supply, energy supply and sustainable societal development with attractive environments for both people and companies. At present, this is largely handled by each sub-region and each municipality on its own. However, there should be great benefits from coordinating the efforts made on different sides of the border, thus increasing the cross-border capacity to both manage ongoing establishments and strengthen the region’s position in order to attract additional investment and skilled labour.

The purpose of this feasibility study is to prepare the region’s actors for a larger implementation project, which in turn will aim to strengthen the region’s position in the global competition for investments in the battery and electrification industry. This is done through a mapping of available knowledge, workshops together with regional stakeholders and writing a project application to Interreg Aurora call 3 for a larger implementation project.
