Kvarken Council’s strategy 2030

Competence and learning

Actions

Our ongoing actions in the Competence and Learning focus area are as follows:

Working Committee for Culture and Education

The Kvarken Council’s board can appoint necessary committees within the framework of the Kvarken Council’s activities. The working committees carry out concrete activities and initiatives that contribute to regional development. Their work ensures that collaboration continues even when there are no active projects bringing the stakeholders together. Establishing working committees is a concrete example of how we implement our organisation form, the EGTC.

Educational programme cooperation with Hanken

Umeå University and the Hanken Swedish School of Economics in Vaasa have for several years co-organised the course Cross-border regional development and planning in the Kvarken region. The course gives the students a business perspective of the Kvarken region. This includes regional development, Nordic planning systems and businesses, as well as language and culture.

The overall academic aim of the course is to systematically study the conditions for regional development, common economic and strategic objectives with barriers such as language, culture, history, distance, regulations and administrative boundaries. The aim is for students to be able to work on cross-border activities such as economic development, planning, business cooperation etc. in border areas in general.

The co-organisation is partly funded by the Kvarken Council.

Kvarken Unicollab

The Unicollab feasibility study aims to address the increasing demand for specialised labor through enhanced collaboration between educational institutions across borders. The rapid industrial development in the region requires specialised labor, which presents challenges in educating current residents and attracting new ones. Several educational organisations in the region see potential in increased collaboration, but structural differences pose obstacles. The project aims to identify common goals and challenges to lay the foundation for future projects and actions where coordination and collaboration can take place.

Status: Ongoing.

Education in the Battery Belt

The Kvarken Council contributes to the promotion of the education initiative in the region aimed at establishing the Nordic battery belt and at its effects on the labour market, education, transportation, housing, labour supply, etc. Initially, a cooperation project has been discussed in this area.

Status: Ongoing.

Future Festival 20XX – Seminar

The Kvarken Council participates in this event by being responsible for the content during one of the days of the festival week. Programme content is created based on the current theme and guests are invited within the framework of the Kvarken Council’s activities.
