The planes will\u00a0have seats for 19 passengers and a range of 400 km\u00a0or more. This is thanks to the fact that electric planes most likely will have lower\u00a0operation and maintenance\u00a0costs than traditional planes, explains\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mr\u00a0Mathias Lindstr\u00f6m<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Director of the Kvarken Council.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013 In the end,\u00a0everything\u00a0is controlled by\u00a0demand, but there are clear incentives for\u00a0new patterns\u00a0in air traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A few years ago<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the Kvarken Council\u00a0started a project to gather knowledge on electric aviation. The idea is to prepare the region to make use of this\u00a0new technology in the future, while also benefitting from being a forerunner in the field.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Our region is unusually well-suited for electric aviation. What is it then that makes\u00a0electric planes\u00a0more affordable?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Firstly, electric engines are cheaper\u00a0to manufacture than traditional airplane engines. Secondly,\u00a0electric engines\u00a0are much simpler constructions, which means that they do not need as much maintenance.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013 In the long term, electric aviation will revolutionise the aviation market. Lower costs might make it more profitable to fly shorter distances with smaller planes, which would make\u00a0an\u00a0airplane seem more like a bus. New profitable routes between smaller towns might arise, instead of all air traffic\u00a0passing through capitals. At the same time, the battery cluster might\u00a0also\u00a0increase the demand for transport when the regions on both sides of Kvarken work even closer together than what they do today.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013 The main question is naturally if there is enough demand for different routes within the Kvarken region for electric aviation to be realistic.
