Study Has Mapped the Kvarken Region\u2019s Film Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"Standard\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The goal of the feasibility study is to map the Kvarken region\u2019s film industry and explore opportunities for developing a film hub in the Kvarken region \u2013 a hub that could serve as the foundation for a joint film and TV scene.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">The Kvarken Council EGTC is the lead partner in the study, with other project partners including Svenska \u00d6sterbottens f\u00f6rbund f\u00f6r utbildning och kultur, Novia University of Applied Sciences, and Region V\u00e4sterbotten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Standard\">&#8220;The main goal of the film hub is to build competencies and structures to enable and increase the amount of major film and TV productions in the Kvarken region&#8221;, explains <b>Andreas Westerberg,<\/b> Project Leader at Novia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Standard\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The mapping of the film industry in Ostrobothnia and V\u00e4sterbotten has been conducted through a survey prepared by the project group,<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">receiving a total of 64\u00a0responses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Standard\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&#8220;Through this mapping, we have created a picture of the strengths and needs on both sides of the Kvarken. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">In the long term, we can strengthen areas with existing expertise while addressing areas that require support&#8221;, Westerberg explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"Standard\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Larger Implementation Project as the Goal<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"Standard\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The project group has carried out several activities during the project period and organized two workshops \u2013 one in Vaasa, Finland, and the other in Ume\u00e5, Sweden.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">In September, a networking meeting and industry event named KickOff were organized in Vaasa, bringing together professionals from the audiovisual industry. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Among other things, the Kvarken Film Network feasibility study was presented during the event.<\/span> <span lang=\"SV\">The <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">resource<\/span><span lang=\"SV\"> centre <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Film i V\u00e4sterbotten also organized industry days during the Ume\u00e5 Film Festival, with the project group participating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Standard\">During the project period, work has also begun on establishing support and funding structures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Standard\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&#8220;A proposal for a new regional film fund model to support major film productions has been developed in V\u00e4sterbotten.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">In Ostrobothnia, the feasibility of establishing a film commission has been explored, collaboration with film workers in Sein\u00e4joki has begun, and the possibilities of coordinating smaller actors into a larger entity have been investigated&#8221;, explains Westerberg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Standard\">Moreover, discussions have been held about a future implementation project within the Interreg framework and identifying potential collaboration partners for such a project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Standard\">&#8220;An economically sustainable structure to support and develop the Kvarken Brandt reminded that Finland\u2019s security of supply has deep historical roots dating back to the First World War.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Iron, gunpowder, and grain \u2013 that\u2019s where it starts. We are very proud of our capacity to maintain continuity during crises, which has been proven several times throughout history, not least during the oil crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, he explained.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the central part of Brandt\u2019s presentation was dedicated to the Nordic Connector project, which he describes as a lifeline for the security and development of the region and the entire Northern Nordics.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brandt emphasized that the project offers a new dimension of cooperation and integration across regional borders. It can act as a catalyst for further collaboration and development and has the potential to radically reshape future landscapes in both the Northern Nordics and Europe.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Through Nordic Connector, we are not only creating new trade routes and communication lines but also stronger ties between communities across regional borders, which enhances our collective resilience up here in the North, he explained.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 This vision of connectivity has occasionally been forgotten but is today more relevant than ever.
