The event belongs to the European Commission\u2019s <em>Motorways of the Sea<\/em> seminar series and provides an excellent foundation for the wider introduction of the E12 Corridor\u2019s development work and the <em>Midway Alignment of the Bothnian Corridor<\/em> project. The seminar\u2019s themes focus on northern transport routes and strategies for remote and peripheral regions for the creation of functional and effective transport routes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introducing the Midway Alignment Project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The<em> Midway Alignment<\/em> project\u2019s financing application, delivered to the European Commission in February, now benefits from the fact that the EU officials preparing the financing are given the chance to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the said transport and communications corridor. The seminar is attended by, among others, <strong>Mr. Brian Simpson<\/strong>, Coordinator of the Motorways of the Sea, and <strong>Mr. Jos\u00e9 Anselmo<\/strong>, Ten-T and Motorways of the Sea policy advisor. Simpson will hold a speech on the second day of the event in Ume\u00e5, whereas Anselmo will take the floor in Vaasa.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Rahoitusp\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kset tehd\u00e4\u00e4n luonnollisesti poliittisell- Financing decisions are naturally made on a political level, but the work of the officials carries great signif-icance in this matter, says<strong> Mr. Mathias Lindstr\u00f6m<\/strong>, Director of the Kvarken Council, when asked about the financing possibilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focus on the Economic Life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to Simpson and Anselmo, several other international top-names, such as <strong>Mr. Vitor Fraga<\/strong>, Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport in the Azores, and <strong>Mr. Paul Holthus<\/strong>, CEO of World Ocean Council, will attend the seminar. The economic life is also well represented in Ume\u00e5 and Vaasa. In addition to company representatives, the event in Ume\u00e5 will host <strong>Mr. Per Olof Lingwall<\/strong>, National Coordinator of the Swedish National Public Transport Agency, and <strong>Mr. Risto E. J. Penttil\u00e4<\/strong>, CEO of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce. Speeches will also be held by the representatives of the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, Senior Adviser <strong>Mr. Lassi Hilska<\/strong> and High Level Representative <strong>Mr. Juhani Tervala<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar is organized by the E12 Atlantica Transport project (supported by the Interreg Botnia-Atlantica programme) in cooperation with the Kvarken Council, the Regional Council of Ostrobothnia, Region V\u00e4sterbotten and the European Commission\u2019s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE).<\/p>\n<p>The seminar series forms part of the activities of the <em>Motorways of the Sea<\/em> programme. The programme\u2019s goal is to improve the possibilities for maritime freight transport by e.g. improving maritime routes, port pairs and port services.<\/p>\n<p>The E12 Atlantica Transport project is a collaboration project between Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian partners operating along the E12 Corridor.
