The latest phase of this work is the FLINC project (Financing large-scale cross-border infrastructure \u2013 Case Nordic Connector). The primary objective of FLINC is to develop methodologies for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Financing large-scale cross-border infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Assessing broader societal benefits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As the name suggests, the Nordic Connector serves as the primary case study. There is a clear need for new methods to evaluate broader societal impacts and for viable models to finance this kind of cross-border projects.<\/p>\n<p>FLINC builds upon and complements the feasibility study previously conducted by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency regarding a fixed Kvarken link. By using the Nordic Connector as a case study for infrastructure in sparsely populated areas, the project aims to provide science-based evidence for future political decisions. The Nordic Connector initiative explores the feasibility of a fixed link across the Kvarken Strait as part of developing east-west transport solutions in the northern Nordic region.<\/p>\n<p>FLINC develops methods for the financing and analysis of broader societal benefits associated with large-scale, cross-border infrastructure. While the Nordic Connector is the concrete example, FLINC\u2019s methodologies for financing and impact analysis are designed for broader application.<\/p>\n<p>Within this initiative, the physical construction is not an end in itself; rather, the focus is on the societal benefits a fixed link enables. Det bygger p\u00e5 en historia av omfattande gr\u00e4ns\u00f6verskridande samarbete i regionen i samband med olika projekt. Det h\u00e4r projektet ligger i linje med trafikstrategin f\u00f6r E12-regionen s\u00e5v\u00e4l med m\u00e5len att n\u00e5 koldioxidneutrala transporter som med \u00e5tg\u00e4rderna som syftar till att unders\u00f6ka regionala flygrutter i \u00f6st-v\u00e4stlig riktning. Tekniken inom eldriven luftfart g\u00e5r snabbt fram\u00e5t. Inom de n\u00e4rmaste fem \u00e5ren v\u00e4ntas flera modeller av regionala eldrivna flygplan finnas p\u00e5 marknaden. Eftersom elflyg inte producerar n\u00e5gra utsl\u00e4pp av v\u00e4xthusgaser, f\u00f6rv\u00e4ntas det bli ett av de mest klimateffektiva transports\u00e4tten i framtiden. Samtidigt betyder eldriften drastiskt minskade br\u00e4nsle- och underh\u00e5llskostnader, vilket i sin tur inneb\u00e4r att driftskostnaderna blir mycket konkurrenskraftiga och d\u00e4rmed ger m\u00f6jligheter till en helt ny regional flygtrafik. En tidig implementering av elflyg i Kvarkenregionen har potential att effektivt r\u00e5da bot p\u00e5 n\u00e5gra av regionens stora utmaningar, s\u00e5som demografiska f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar och
