Tiedonhankintamatka tehtiin Brysseliss\u00e4 pidetyn EU:n alueiden komitean avoimien ovien p\u00e4iv\u00e4n yhteydess\u00e4. Suunnittelu ja rakentaminen kestiv\u00e4t kahdeksan vuotta.Tunneli on ollut k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 15 vuotta. Eurotunneli on rakennettu t\u00e4ysin yksityisin varoin, sit\u00e4 ei ole rahoittanut valtiot eik\u00e4 EU. Tunneli kaikkine turvaj\u00e4rjestelmineen tuli maksamaan noin 6 miljarida euroa. Tunneli tekee nyky\u00e4\u00e4n voittoa, ja on t\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna maksanut osinkoa omistajilleen 40 miljoonaa euroa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.1&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">Matkustajam\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on t\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna kasvanut 10 prosenttia, mutta rahti on v\u00e4hentynyt. Tunnelia k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 vuosittain 9 miljoonaa matkustajaa ja miljoona rekkaa. Halvimmillaan auto matkustajineen maksaa 20 euroa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">Merenkurkun delegaatio olivat erityisen kiinnostuneita miten Ranskan ja Englannin v\u00e4liset erot vaikuttivat tunnelihankkeeseen. Keefe luetteli m.m. kaksi kielt\u00e4, eri kellonaika, ranskalaisrekkojen liikaa korkeus, sasemman- ja oikanpuolinen liikenne sek\u00e4 kulttuurierot. Raiteiden leveys on sama. Keefen mukaan erot eiv\u00e4t ole aiheuttaneet ongelmia kun ne oli tiedossa etuk\u00e4teen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">Junamatka tunnelissa oli mukava. Junan lastaaminen k\u00e4vi nopeasti. Autot ajettiin junaan jonoon kuin laivaan, henkil\u00f6autot kahteen kerrokseen. Yhteen vaunuun mahtui nelj\u00e4 henkil\u00f6autoa. V\u00e4liss\u00e4 oli palo-ovi. 50 kilometrin matka Ranskasta Englantiin kesti 35 minuuttia.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">Junassa oli tilaa hyvin, oli valoisaa ja siisti\u00e4. Matkan aikana sai nousta autosta ja siirty\u00e4 vaunusta toiseen. Ei juuri huomannut junan laskeutuvan tunneliin tai nousevan sielt\u00e4, vaikka tunneli on syvimmill\u00e4\u00e4n sata metri\u00e4 meren alapuolella. Opasteet olivat ranskaksi, englanniksi ja saksaksi, paikoin jopa ruotsiksi. Henkil\u00f6kunnalta vaaditaan riitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 ranskan ja englannin taitoa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">Turvaj\u00e4rjestelyt olivat vaikuttavat, kaikki autot l\u00e4pivalaistiin. Vaaran sattuessa juna voidaan ohjata toiseen tunneliin. Lis\u00e4ksi on erillinen turvatunneli. Liikenteen ohjauskeskus oli kuin lennonjohto.
