The fifth FAIR competence network webinar on

Public Procurement of flights in Sweden and Finland

 

The goal of the FAIR project is to create synergy, increase knowledge of the potential of electric-powered flights and accelerate the implementation of regional electric flights especially in the Kvarken region. The project consists of three work packages (WP 1-3) of which RISE is responsible for WP 3 focusing on the Cross-border innovation process and the project´s competence network.

The purpose of the competence network is to gather and engage actors for the active exchange of expertise and knowledge. The goal is to contribute to and further develop a Nordic competence network within electric aviation.

The projects’ fifth competence network webinar on June 15th, gathered about 30 participants.  

Aviation Strategist for the Swedish Transport AdministrationKatarina Wigler, presented the organisation’s prestudy results on public procurement of fossil-free flights and elaborated on how procured air traffic in Sweden can contribute to increased accessibility and reducing climate impact. 

Head of Investigation for the Swedish Transport AdministrationBosse Andersson, talked about Sweden´s accessibility criteria, air routes and the upcoming procurement period. He clarified the organizations obligations connected to Public Service Obligations (PSOs) and regional public transport. 

Legal advisor for the Finnish Transport and Communications AgencyMeeri Niinisalo, presented on Traficoms´ assignment of public procurements of flights both connected to the history of air transport PSO routes in Finland, and to the current and future status. 

The discussions overall touched upon possibilities and obstacles for electric powered flights as means of transport in the future. Topics explored for example procurement and government measures, regional hubs and city procurements. The dialogue delved into future scenarios within the scope of identifying opportunities to positively disturb the existing Nordic Air system, implementing Electric Aviation in a way to capitalise on regional strengths and opportunities.
