The FAIR 2 project is advancing successfully, revealing compelling insights as it progresses. Within the project, the consultancy firm Kuudes’ partner DAIN Studios has analysed current travel patterns in the project area by utilizing data from Telia and various public sources. This analysis helps the project partnership understand the current travel behaviours, including destinations and modes of transportation. Kuudes has also conducted interviews with a diverse array of organizations in the project area, both in Sweden and Finland. These organizations range from public and educational sectors to industry and infrastructure sectors.
Sustainable aviation is gaining interest among the mentioned target groups. They see its potential to play a significant role in the future development of the Kvarken region and the northern Nordics. There is already flourishing business collaboration within and between the regions, but there is also much untapped potential. Sustainable aviation could be a key driver in unlocking this potential.
– With several years of experience with other electric vehicles, people are now ready to embrace electric aviation, says Terhi Hyvönen, a Senior Insight Specialist from Kuudes.
– Aviation needs a revolution, especially as the tourism sector relies heavily on it. Participating target groups have highlighted crucial factors that must be considered when designing next-generation aviation from a user-centric perspective, keeping in mind the specific needs of the region’s companies.
The project has recognized that aviation innovations would benefit business. But it has also learned much about how they could contribute to population growth and wellbeing in the area, and even be a significant factor for stability and safety in the Nordics.
In addition to conducting interviews, Kuudes organized a scenario workshop with some of the interviewed companies, the FAIR 2 project team, and the reference group. During this workshop, future scenarios for sustainable aviation were envisioned and developed, which will be evaluated in the next phase of the project. The next step involves distributing a survey to residents and businesses throughout the northern Nordics to understand their attitudes and interest towards sustainable aviation.
– We have realized that sustainable aviation is not just about technology, but also about creating opportunities for people and businesses in the region to grow and thrive, says Saara Järvinen, Senior Insight Strategist from Kuudes.
– It is an exciting time, and we look forward to seeing how this development will positively impact the project region.
The study conducted by Kuudes and its partner partner DAIN Studios will be completed before summer 2024.
