The 9th FAIR competence network webinar on

Electric Aviation as a booster in the Kvarken Region

On February 17th, 2022, the FAIR project arranged a webinar with FAIR project management Tyréns, on the topic of Electric Aviation as a booster in the Kvarken Region.

Mr Andreas Forsgren, Head of department, and Mr Isak Brändström, Strategy consultant, both from Tyréns and project managers of the FAIR project, presented highlights of electric aviation in the Kvarken Region, showcasing preliminary results from the FAIR project. They talked about benefits of electric aviation such as increased accessibility, low environmental impact and lower cost. They also exemplified by a travel time comparison between airplane and car and a possible future route with an estimated carbon footprint.

Mr Forsgren and Mr Brändström expressed the promise of electric aviation for the region, especially for already existing flight routes, and outlined measures supporting early implementation of electric aviation such as economic conditions, societal benefits, and policy measures. They also pointed out the role of demand promoting a swift implementation of electric aviation in the Kvarken Region.

The webinar discussion touched upon for example parameters underlining the project assumptions of electric aviation, the role and need for demand, route possibilities and investment factors for electric aviation. Other topics were policy measures to promote zero emission transport solutions and conditions for PSO routes as well as the societal, cost, and biodiversity aspects of transport infrastructure in Sweden and Norway.

The webinar gathered about 50 participants was moderated by Jeroen Peeters, Ph.D. Senior Design Researcher from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden.

The project management also flagged for interested parties to join the FAIR project end conference 20th–21st of September 2022, a physical and possibly hybrid event arranged in Skellefteå, Sweden.

The goal of the network workshops is to contribute to and further develop a Nordic competence network within electric aviation but also to raise knowledge of regional electric aviation.
